Education to a girl child tantamounts to education to a generation. Keeping this noble thought in view the munificent souls of Rayagada set through a meeting on 28-03-1982 and with one mind and spirit decided to set up an institution of higher learning to impart such education as to bring the under privileged girl children of erstwhile undivided koraput district to the down of a new scientific civilisation was formally opened on 30-07-1982 with only 37 students.
The institution was christined as Women’s College, Rayagada and got registered on 01-08-1982 with the following 11 members from amongst the local intelligencia constituting the first managing committee.
